It’s hard to believe that the 22-year-old who recently blazed to a 1.14.39 win at the Bearathon Half-Marathon at Baylor University was—not so long ago—recovering from major abdominal surgery. Jill, I thought the same thing, but when you look at the picture the check clearly shows 2009.

  • Jill Scoggins says:

Just to clarify: Baylor University’s half-marathon “Bearathon” was cancelled Saturday, March 20, 2010, because of weather conditions that posed a threat to participants. Organizers were disappointed about the forced cancellation but put the safety of participants first in making the decision. Several registrants made the decision to run the course despite the weather. No one from Bearathon conducted the start, timed the race or manned the finish line. Because Bearathon did not hold an official timed race and runners were discouraged from being out in inclement weather conditions, the race was unofficial and not the Bearathon.

Ya I think they just wanted to exemplify the amazing recovery Matt made, and in the process some of the details were lost in translation. I'm pretty sure the act of mistaking last years official win with this years unofficial time was unintentional. Nonetheless still an incredibly inspirational story of perseverance and hard work.

    Keep it up Matt!

  • If only I knew how to express my thoughts as well as you do. Then I could write a great article like yours that everyone likes. No, really, great job.

  • I was just searching for this info for some time. After 6 hours of continuous Googleing, at last I got it in your web site. I wonder what is the lack of Google strategy that do not rank this type of informative websites in top of the list. Usually the top web sites are full of garbage.
