Every female athlete out there needs to give this one a listen (and it won’t hurt for the men to listen in either). We are joined by Dr. Jason Karp, co-author of Running For Women, who’s also a coach and athlete. Dr. Karp is extremely knowledgeable on female physiology and women in athletics, and on this show we’ll share some of the great things you can find in the book, as well as talk in detail about female athletes and their special qualities and needs — from the basics of the menstrual cycle to female hormones and metabolism to planning training and racing based on your cycle, the female athlete triad, and much more.

I have a question regarding the female cycle. I am an endurance athlete, training for triathlons (10-15 hrs/week) and since I started my season I have no had my period (about 4 months). I make sure my calories are adequate and I focus on getting about 50% from carbs, 30 from fat, and 20 from protein. This is subject to change depending on intensity and workout duration. What can I do to help myself get regular again?
